Annual Whole School Athletics Carnival

Wisdom College recently held its annual Whole School Athletics Carnival, and it was wonderful to see so many students from Years 4 to 12 enthusiastically participating throughout the day.

Held at Col Bennett Park in Algester, the carnival featured a wide range of track and field events, including the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m races, as well as Long Jump, Shot Put and Discus. Students showed great determination, sportsmanship and House spirit as they competed and supported one another.

There was also plenty of fun beyond the traditional events, with novelty races adding excitement to the day. One of the highlights was the House mascot race, which brought plenty of laughter and cheering from students and staff.

Our Prep to Year 3 students were also included in the celebrations. They enjoyed participating in a range of fun activities in the middle of the track, including sack races, three-legged races and other games designed especially for our younger students.

The atmosphere across the carnival was fantastic. The weather was brilliant, the music was pumping and students proudly represented their Houses with energy and enthusiasm.

A very special congratulations goes to Farabi House, who were named the overall winning House for 2026. This was a wonderful achievement and a great reflection of the teamwork and effort shown by students throughout the day.

We would like to thank all staff who helped facilitate the carnival by timing races, measuring events, supervising students and offering plenty of encouragement. Days like this would not be possible without the support and commitment of our staff.

We also extend our sincere thanks to our Sports Coordinator, Mr Ze Ferreira, for managing and leading the day. His organisation and dedication helped ensure the carnival was a successful and enjoyable experience for the entire Wisdom College community.

CO-CURRICULAR

Building Resilience, Leadership and Connection Through School Camps

Camps and outdoor education are an important part of student life at Wisdom College. They provide students with valuable opportunities to connect with nature, step away from devices, strengthen relationships with their peers and develop greater independence.

Already this year, our Year 11 and 12 students have attended a three-day, two-night camp, with our Year 7 and 8 students participating in a similar experience. Our camps are generally held in semi-remote locations west of Brisbane, including areas near Toowoomba, Esk, Crows Nest and Lake Maroon.

Students take part in a variety of activities, which may include canoeing, high ropes, abseiling, low ropes, orienteering, swimming, hiking and archery. Each activity encourages teamwork, communication, problem-solving and the confidence to try something new.

Our camp venues generally provide comfortable cabin accommodation for students and staff. Halal meals and suitable prayer spaces are also provided. Boys and girls stay in separate cabins and use separate amenities, and our students are supported throughout the camp by Wisdom College staff who understand and uphold our Islamic values.

While school camps are filled with fun and memorable experiences, they also have a much deeper purpose. One of our key aims is to develop resilience and leadership. Spending time away from the comforts and routines of home encourages students to become more responsible, adaptable and confident. These are important skills and character traits that will support them throughout school and in life beyond the classroom.

Camps and outdoor education are also highly valued within the Hizmet philosophy of education. As a Hizmet-inspired school, Wisdom College aims to provide experiences that nurture the whole child and encourage service, leadership, positive relationships and strong character.

This term, four different year-level camp experiences have taken place. Our Year 5 and 6 students attended camp in Week 1, followed by Year 4 in Week 2 and Year 9 and 10 in Week 3. Our Year 3 students also participated in a school sleepover during Week 4.

Year 3 is the youngest year level to participate in an overnight experience. Held safely on the school grounds, the sleepover provides students with a gentle and exciting introduction to spending a night away from home and developing their independence.

We would also like to sincerely thank the dedicated staff members who attend our camps. They give up valuable time with their own families to support, supervise and encourage our students. It is because of their commitment and participation that Wisdom College can continue to offer these meaningful and memorable opportunities.

ACADEMICS

2026 Naplan Results

Wisdom College is proud to celebrate the achievements of our students in the 2026 NAPLAN assessments, with strong results recorded across Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

This year’s results demonstrate continued achievement and growth in both literacy and numeracy. Across the five assessment domains of Writing, Reading, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy, Wisdom College students achieved results at or above the state average in 13 of the 20 year-level results.

Spelling was a particular strength across the College, with students in all four year levels performing between 9 and 18 percentage points above the state average. This consistent achievement reflects the strong literacy foundations being developed throughout our classrooms.

Our primary students also achieved excellent results, with Years 3 and 5 outperforming the state across every NAPLAN domain. We were especially pleased to see high proportions of students achieving within the Strong and Exceeding proficiency levels, alongside low proportions of students requiring additional support.

The results of our continuing Year 9 students were another positive highlight. Students who have remained at Wisdom College performed above the overall Year 9 cohort average in every domain, demonstrating the meaningful impact of our teaching programs and the benefits of continued learning within our school community.

We have also seen clear improvement in Reading and Numeracy since 2024, reflecting the ongoing commitment of our staff to reviewing, strengthening and refining teaching practices to support student progress.

As a diverse school community, with approximately 69–84 per cent of students identified as English as an Additional Language or Dialect learners across the assessed year levels, these results are particularly significant. They highlight the strength of our inclusive, supportive and high-expectation learning environment.

These achievements would not be possible without the dedication of our students, the professionalism and care of our teachers and support staff, and the continued encouragement of our families.

While we are proud of the progress made, we remain committed to continuous improvement and ensuring every student is supported to achieve their full potential.
